What if solutions to our society’s biggest problems—poverty, pollution, unequal access to healthcare and education—flowed as seamlessly out of universities and into the right hands as new medical breakthroughs or technical algorithms? At Stanford Impact Labs, it’s our mission to build teams of social scientists and community leaders and support breakthrough solutions to today’s toughest social problems. We identify, train, and fund scholars who are working with partners outside of academia to co-create meaningful, equitable solutions to seemingly intractable social problems.
This session is ideal for students who may want to pursue impact-oriented careers in government, nonprofit, philanthropy, research, social enterprise, or the private sector. Students will engage in the same hands-on exercises that Stanford faculty do with Stanford Impact Labs (SIL) staff to think through the ways in which research and evidence can be used for social impact. This session will dive into what these types of collaborations look like across sectors, geographies, and topics and demonstrate what it looks like when they generate new insights that improve lives.
